DRAFT LIST: The NHL’s Central Scouting Service has released their final rankings for the upcoming entry draft in Minnesota with one local prospect earning his way onto the list.

Justin Sefton of Thunder Bay was rated 89th overall among North American skaters. The defenceman with the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League impressed the scouts enough during the final portion of the season to garner a spot in the final tabulations after not being ranked in the mid-term listings announced by NHL CSS early in January.

The six-foot-three, 199-pound blueliner picked up 11 points including five goals for the Wolves during the course of the regular season.

Sefton was also recognized at Sudbury’s annual awards banquet last week where he picked the most improved player honour for his club.

Another Lakehead product in Michael MacDonald claimed most sportsmanlike laurels at the same event.

The NHL draft goes June 24-25 in St. Paul, Minn.

OHL HONOUR: Thunder Bay’s Matt Murray has been named to the OHL all-Scholastic Team.

The rookie goaltender with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds was also his team’s nominee for the OHL scholastic player of the year.

Murray also claimed the Greyhounds top academic player in high school award while also taking home the club award for top scholastic player.

Kenora’s Carson Dubchak was also presented with Sault Ste. Marie’s unsung hero honour for his efforts with the Hounds.

ACHA MENTION: Thunder Bay Queens’ alumna Hope Fullum recently received honourable mention All-American status from the American Collegiate Hockey Association for her efforts playing defense at Robert Morris University in suburban Chicago.

She wrapped up her U.S. collegiate career by setting personal single season highs in goals, assists and points with 16, 24 and 40 respectively.

A co-captain on the Eagles’ women’s team Fullum concluded up her four-year hockey career at the school recording 106 points in 120 games while anchoring the RMU defensive corps.
