New role for Godfrey at Holy Cross

AFTER
wrapping up his U.S. collegiate playing career at Holy Cross Rob Godfrey is set to begin a new phase in his tenure at the Atlantic Hockey conference institution.

Fresh off graduating this summer Godfrey is remaining at Holy Cross having been hired as the director of hockey operations at the school.

If that won’t keep him busy enough he will also serve as an assistant equipment manager for the athletic department and serve as an assistant women’s hockey coach.

Godfrey had a solid career as a defenseman for the Crusaders playing in 121 career games.

Among the honours he picked up was being named Atlantic Hockey’s best defensive defenseman award recipient in 2005-06 while also serving as an assistant captain and taking home numerous team and school laurels for commitment, leadership and performance in his senior year.

VIVA LAS VEGAS: It will be off to the Las Vegas Wranglers for local product Thomas Harrison as he has inked a deal with the ECHL club for the upcoming campaign.

The 23-year-old defenceman turns pro after spending last year playing university hockey at Western Ontario of the OUA where he had nine points in 28 games with the Mustangs.

THUNDER STRUCK: There was also another area player signing with an ECHL organization this past week.

The Stockton Thunder announced that they have agreed to terms with rookie center Tyler Skworchinski, who hails from Marathon.

The 24-year-old Skworchinski played four seasons at Michigan Tech University iincluding setting a career high in points last season.

He was also a Western Collegiate Hockey Association all-academic team award =inner in each year he was eligible and a WCHA scholar-athlete honouree in both =ears the award has been presented.

OFF TO COLLEGE: Former Thunder Bay Queens forward Hope Fullum has headed to the U.S. to play college hockey.

Fullum has been recruited by Robert Morris College, which is located in suburban Chicago, Illinois.

She joins the RMC Eagles who are the defending American Collegiate Hockey Association national tournament champions.

Fullum will get her first action with the team this weekend as they travel to Windsor for a two-game exhibition series against the University of Windsor.

GERMANY CALLING: After captaining the Muskegon Fury the past few seasons Fort Frances native Rustyn Dolyny has decided to give playing in Germany a try.

Dolyny signed on with the Crimmitschau Ice Pirates, a second division team.

He had spent the last six years with the Fury helping Muskegon win three Colonial Cup titles.

In 404 career games in the professional ranks the 30-year-old forward has accumulated 369 points including 156 goals.

OHL DEAL: It will be a fresh start for Thunder Bay’s Kyle Tront in the Ontario Hockey League.

The 18-year-old forward has joined a new club after being traded to the Belleville Bulls from the Sarnia Sting for a fifth round draft choice in the 2008 OHL priority selection.

Tront had picked up 16 points in 79 games with the Sting.
