A trio of former Thunder Bay major midget Kings’ goaltenders had winning performances over the weekend with their respective clubs.

In the NCAA ranks Paul Karpowich led his Clarkson Golden Knights to road victories over ECAC rivals Princeton and Quinnipiac.

The junior netminder started with a 36-save performance Friday vs. the Tigers and followed that up with 34 more stops Saturday against Quinnipiac in a pair of 5-3 triumphs.

Meanwhile Karpowich’s former Kings’ teammate Drew Strandberg was between the pipes backstopping his Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets to a two-game sweep over Wisconsin-Steven’s Point.

He only allowed three goals in the two games, which UWS won by scores of 2-1 and 4-2.

The other ex-Kings goalie coming through was Colin Dzijacky, who posted his first shutout at the Jr. A level, as he led his Grand Prairie Storm to a 6-0 win against St. Albert in Alberta Jr. Hockey League action Friday.

He turned aside all 30 shots he faced winning his eighth game of the season, which is the most among all rookie goalies in the AJHL.

Dzijacky is also ninth overall in goals-against average among all netminders at 2.65 and is tied for sixth in save percentage at .917.

The 19-year-old forward has scored in four straight contests for the Wolves and in 27 games overall with Sudbury and London MacDonald has registered 23 points including 11 goals.

LEADING THE WAY: A seven-game point streak has sent Haley Irwin to the top of the leader board of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.

Her latest big effort came Saturday as the UMD Bulldogs blanked St. Cloud St. 5-0 highlighted by Irwin’s natural hat-trick and two assist performance.
