Hawks blast Stars to win 18th straight

Feb. 21 – Justin Tougas scored three times and added an assist to help the Northern Hawks blast Jr. B Stars 9-0 Tuesday evening in Thunder Bay Jr. B Hockey League action at the Tournament Centre.

The first place Hawks took control early on erupting for four goals before the game was 10 minutes old en route to their 18th consecutive victory.

Brett Biasiol, Kevin Missere, Josh Elvish and Cary Brown were the marksmen in the first period offensive barrage.

The Hawks extended their cushion to 8-0 after 40 minutes on Biasiol’s second of the night and a natural hat-trick by Tougas.

Joey Kitchen rounded out the scoring late in the contest as the first place Northern Hawks improved to 28-1 on the season.

Justin Veltri chipped in with three assists for the Hawks in the romp.

Eric Rogers turned aside all 22 shots he faced to post the shutout and pick-up the victory.

Joey Wanzuk started for the Stars and suffered the loss as his team fell to 15-15 on the campaign.

Wanzuk had 35 pucks fired his way during his stint between the pipes while Tyler Randle turned aside nine of 12 in relief.

Next up on the Jr. B docket sees the Stars heading to Nipigon Friday to meet the Elks. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
