Thunderhawks go 1-2 in opening tournamentNov. 21--The Confederation College Thunderhawks women's hockey team returned home from their first-ever games registering a 1-2 record at the All-American women's tournament in Blaine, Minn., over the weekend.
They opened up with a 6-2 setback at the hands of the Brew City Blades Friday before picking up their first win Saturday as they blanked Icy Hot 5-0. They then fell 2-0 to the Madison Meteorites in their finale.
Against Brew City they fell behind 4-0 after one period as opening game jitters appeared to get the best of them.
After the Blades made it 5-0 six minutes into the middle stanza, Kelsey Ham recorded the inaugural goal in club history scoring at 7:01 of the second period with assists that went to Amber Butler and Kylie Cornell.
Jessica Barker would then set-up Farren Smith a few minutes later to make it a 5-2 game heading to the third.
Brew City would score early in the final stanza to round out the scoring.
Hannah Bennett would suffer the loss in net for the Thunderhawks.
Game No. 2 saw Harmony Kemp post the shutout helping Con College pick up their initial victory.
Nicole Spence and Butler had first period tallies for the T-Hawks while Cornell and Nikki Groulx added markers in the middle session.
Spence notched her second of the game to finish off the scoring.
Taylor Savard dished out a pair of assists to aid the offensive cause.
The club could not muster any goals in their final contest in the defeat vs. Madison.
Bennett suffered the loss in net allowing only one goal as the other marker was scored into an empty net.
